Nnewi North Suspends PTA Teachers Recruitment Exercise

The Nnewi North Local Government Area has announced the immediate suspension of the ongoing PTA teachers recruitment exercise into public schools within the council. The decision affects all applicants and stakeholders who had shown interest in the recruitment process earlier approved by the Mayor, Hon Echezona Anazodo.

According to the official public service announcement, the suspension is necessary to allow the council properly align the recruitment process with updated guidelines issued by the Anambra State Ministry of Education and the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board. This step is aimed at ensuring uniformity in recruitment procedures across the state’s education system.

Reason for the Suspension

The council explained that the move is part of efforts to strengthen the screening and selection framework for prospective teachers. With the high number of applications already received, authorities believe it is important to review and restructure the process to guarantee transparency, fairness, and a merit-based outcome.

Officials noted that aligning with state-approved standards will help eliminate inconsistencies and improve the overall quality of the recruitment exercise. It is also expected to ensure that only qualified and competent candidates are selected to teach in public schools across the local government area.

Assurance to Applicants and Stakeholders

The Nnewi North Local Government expressed regret over any inconvenience the suspension may cause to applicants and other concerned members of the public. However, it reassured candidates that the decision is in their best interest and will lead to a more credible and organised recruitment process.

Authorities have also confirmed that a new date for the commencement of the exercise will be announced in due course. Applicants are therefore encouraged to remain patient and await further official communication.

Warning Against Misinformation

Applicants have been strongly advised to disregard any unofficial information regarding the recruitment exercise. The council emphasised that only updates released through its official communication channels should be considered valid.

This warning comes amid concerns that false information could mislead applicants or create confusion about the status of the recruitment process. Candidates are urged to stay informed through verified sources to avoid falling victim to misinformation.

Commitment to a Transparent Process

The council reiterated its commitment to conducting a recruitment exercise that is transparent, merit-driven, and free from irregularities. By taking this step, the local government aims to build public trust and ensure that the education sector benefits from qualified teaching personnel.

The announcement was signed by Hon Emeka Okafor, Secretary of Nnewi North Local Government Area, and issued on Monday, 20 April 2026.
